Overview

Sickle Cell Disease is the most common of the rare diseases. Despite over 100,000 individuals living with sickle cell disease, here is a lack of providers knowledgeable in the management of sickle cell disease. This barrier to accessing quality evidence-based care leads to poor patient outcomes and poor utilization.

This series aims to address the paucity of sickle cell knowledge among healthcare providers and team members who provide care for patients with sickle cell disease by providing information and development activities to promote quality improvement in sickle cell disease care.

Sickle cell providers who participate will receive knowledge and tools necessary to deliver effective, evidence-based care by affecting healthcare practices at the level of the individual and the larger health system.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, healthcare team members will be able to:

  1. Manage individuals with illness related to sickle cell disease.
  2. Distinguish best practices and national guidelines for the care of an individual with sickle cell disease.
  3. Apply strategies for recruiting sickle cell care providers to telemonitoring opportunities.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Thomas Jefferson University and John Hopkins University. Thomas Jefferson University is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurses: This activity awards 1.25 nursing contact hours.

Other Healthcare Professionals: This educational activity is designated for 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.
