Overview

This innovative course will be of interest to all specialists working in the fields of emergency medicine, internal medicine, hospital medicine, neurology, critical care, and neurosurgery. It focuses on clinical cases regarding issues in Neurocritical Care, particularly those that generate practical controversy, and that are related to recent advances pertaining to the management of the critically-ill neurological patient.

This CE Conference offers participants a case-based format that will allow participants to observe and question faculty members as they deal with real patient problems, and demonstrate how to apply new information and evidence-based guidelines into their practices. Together with our expert interdisciplinary team, participants will critique treatment approaches, interpret clinical and laboratory findings from, and navigate through the critical decision points of care.

Successful Completion
To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Friday, February 21, 2025. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.

Keynote: Emily J. Gilmore MD, FNCS, FACNS

Emily J. Gilmore, MD has been a member of the Division of Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology at the Yale School of Medicine and a neurointensivist and critical care EEG attending at Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut since 2012.

Dr. Gilmore completed her neurology residency and 3-year combined fellowship at Columbia University where she fostered a clinical and research interest in neuromonitoring. She was one of the first neurointensivists to become board certified in critical care EEG monitoring and was recruited to Yale to help build a state-of-the art Neuro-ICU where technology could be deployed to deliver cutting edge care for patients with acute brain injury.

Keynote: Monisha A. Kumar, MD

Dr. Monisha A. Kumar, MD, is a renowned neurologist and Director of the Neuro ICU at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

As a Professor of Neurology, with an additional appointment as an Associate Professor in Anesthesiology and Critical Care, Dr. Kumar is highly regarded for her expertise in managing complex neurological conditions, particularly subarachnoid hemorrhage, therapeutic hypothermia, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Her special interest is in racial and gender disparities and health equity in the delivery of neurocritical care. Dr. Kumar holds board certifications in Neurology and Vascular Neurology, solidifying her commitment to advancing critical care for patients with severe neurological disorders.

 Keynote: Niklas Nielsen

Niklas Nielsen is an associate professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences at Helsingborg, Lund University and consultant in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Helsingborg Hospital.

He completed his PhD on induced hypothermia after cardiac arrest with a clinical focus organizing the international Hypothermia Network Registry, now renamed the International Cardiac Arrest Registry (INTCAR). The thesis led to the design and conduct of the international randomized clinical trial: Targeted Temperature Management 33°C versus 36°C after Cardiac Arrest (TTM-trial), where he was the principal investigator and lead author.

He is the principal investigator of the published TTM2-trial. His current research interest is on various aspects of post-cardiac arrest care with focus on temperature management, trial methodology, trial conduct, prediction and follow-up.
