Overview

Designed for healthcare professionals specializing in gastroenterology, hepatology, internal medicine, family medicine, general surgery, gynecology, and colorectal surgery, the 6th Annual Jefferson Women and Gastroenterology Symposium will discuss the medical conditions that are unique to women, occur more frequently in women, or present differently in women.

By utilizing emerging scientific and clinical evidence, experts will provide updated approaches to the diagnosis, management and treatment of common gastrointestinal and liver conditions aimed to improve the care of female patients.

Successful Completion
To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Thursday, March 14, 2024. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.

Cancellation Policy

Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received in the Office of CPD two weeks prior to the start date of the course. There will be no refunds after this period.*  Cancellations notified before the two week time frame will incur a 25% administration fee (with a minimum of $20).  Registrants who fail to attend the conference are responsible for the entire fee.  All refunds will be processed after the conference.  The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.

Keynote Lecture
Empowering Women: A Hepatologist's Perspective


Guadalupe Garcia-Tsao MD, FRCP is Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and Chief of Digestive Diseases at the VA-Connecticut Healthcare System. She also serves as director of the Clinical Core of the NIH-funded Yale Liver Center and is Associate Editor of the New England Journal of Medicine. She was president of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) in 2012.

Dr. Garcia-Tsao’s research has been mainly patient-oriented research in the area of the complications of cirrhosis related to portal hypertension, specifically varices, variceal hemorrhage, ascites and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. She has authored or co-authored over 200 peer-review papers, chapters, reviews and several society guidelines and position papers. She is co-editor of a book on Vascular Disorders of the Liver, Textbook of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Sherlock’s Liver Diseases.
