Overview

Designed for healthcare professionals specializing in Gastroenterology, hepatology, internal Medicine, family Medicine, general surgery, Gynecology, and Colorectal surgery, the 7th annual Jefferson women and Gastroenterology health symposium will discuss the medical conditions that are unique to women, occur more frequently in women, or present differently in women. By utilizing emerging scientific and clinical evidence, experts will provide updated approaches to the diagnosis, management and treatment of common gastrointestinal and liver conditions aimed to improve the care of female patients.

 

Successful Completion
To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Thursday, March 20, 2025. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.

Keynote Speaker: Anita Afzali, MD

Anita Afzali, MD is an internationally renowned, board-certified gastroenterologist whose focus is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

In addition to her role as a practicing board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Afzali is currently leading several roles at UC Health and the UC College of Medicine, including associate chief medical officer at UC Health, executive vice-chair for clinical operations in the Department of Internal Medicine and professor in the division of digestive diseases at the UC College of Medicine.

As an accomplished healthcare executive, she has conducted extensive clinical research as global principal investigator in novel therapy and diagnostic trials. She is a respected innovator and expert in program development and healthcare operations, creating national programs, strategic multidisciplinary partnerships, community engagement and entrepreneurship.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, healthcare team members will be able to:

  1. Recognize the burden and the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of alcohol related liver disease.
  2. Discuss the symptoms, diagnosis and advances in the treatment of non ulcer dyspepsia and SIBO.
  3. Explain the impact of obesity on IBD and its implications on the treatment of patients with IBD.
  4. Discuss the diagnosis and management of various gall bladder diseases that can occur in women during pregnancy and in the post partum period.
  5. Discuss the criteria for the diagnosis , surveillance guidelines and endoscopic treatment of Barrett's esophagus.
  6. Recognize personal value, the importance of communicating needs, advocating for oneself, and highlighting achievements.

This educational activity is designated for a maximum of 5.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC Credit

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 5.50 MOC points and patient safety MOC credit in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

ABCGN Credit: This activity has been approved for 5.50 ABCGN contact hours.

According to the criteria of the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology Nurses (ABCGN), the approved hours in this activity are considered GI Specific for the purpose of recertification by contact hours through the ABCGN.

AAFP Credit: The AAFP has reviewed 7th Annual Women and Gastroenterology Symposium and deemed it acceptable for up to 5.25 Live AAFP Prescribed credit(s). Term of Approval is from 02/28/2025 to 02/28/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Cancellation Policy
Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received in the Office of CPD two weeks prior to the start date of the course. There will be no refunds after this period.*  Cancellations notified before the two week time frame will incur a 25% administration fee (with a minimum of $20).  Registrants who fail to attend the conference are responsible for the entire fee.  All refunds will be processed after the conference.  The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.
