Overview

The symposium emphasizes the interprofessional team approach needed to improve diabetes care and prevent complications. The ultimate goal of this symposium is to improve clinicians’ knowledge and understanding of current guidelines and information, on the treatment of diabetes, in an effort to ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Successful Completion
To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Thursday, November 2, 2023. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, healthcare team members will be able to:

  1. Differentiate older agents from newer ones in the diabetes treatment algorithm.
  2. Examine the various mechanisms of action, benefits, and side effects of new diabetic therapies.
  3. Compare consensus algorithms (ADA, AACE) in the treatment of diabetes.
  4. Establish timelines and dosage for insulin therapy based on individual patient profile.
  5. Distinguish between different types of diabetes: LADA, MODY, and PTDM.
  6. Incorporate new technology into management of diabetes.
  7. Distinguish between the various GLP1-RA therapies and the role of each in weight loss in diabetics vs nondiabetics.
  8. Recognize the different glycemic goals in diabetes during pregnancy and in inpatient settings.

Cancellation Policy

Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received in the Office of CPD two weeks prior to the start date of the course. There will be no refunds after this period.*  Cancellations notified before the two week time frame will incur a 25% administration fee (with a minimum of $20).  Registrants who fail to attend the conference are responsible for the entire fee.  All refunds will be processed after the conference.  The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.

Discuss therapeutic inertia concerns about glycemic control after initial diagnosis of T2D. Review the role of GLP-1 in T2D, as well as clinical considerations and guideline support for algorithms that include use of a GLP-1 RA. Evaluate the efficacy and safety profile of an oral GLP-1 RA, RYBELSUS® (semaglutide) tablets, 7 mg or 14 mg, from a monotherapy trial in adult patients with T2D.
