Overview

The ultimate goal of this conference is improve the care of patients with pancreatic and related cancers by focusing on improvements to the diagnostic methods, treatment strategies, and supportive care. Through didactic lectures, case based presentations, and lively discussion with expert faculty, participants will review of the latest technologies and procedures and will be able to improve their delivery of care, determine the need for referrals sooner, and achieve better patient outcomes.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Assess the current state of pancreatic cancer in the US and the challenges associated with diagnosis, management, and treatment of this disease.
  2. Appraise the role of the gastroenterologist in the diagnosis, screening, testing, and management.
  3. Evaluate the various noninvasive imaging including CT, MRI, PET, etc.
  4. Evaluate the surgical treatment options available and the risks and benefits associated with each.
  5. Examine the pathology of pancreas cancer in terms of its specific nomenclature and future progress.
  6. Analyze the various neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapies available, and the applications, implications, and outcomes of these treatment strategies.
  7. Discuss the current novel treatment strategies for locally advanced pancreatic cancer.
  8. Evaluate the significance of tumor registries and cancer fatigue/distress surveys and their application into practice.
  9. Describe therapies used in the treatment of pancreatic cancer such as post-resection and radiation.
  10. Assess the value of supportive care and emotional support in treating the cancer patient.
  11. Describe the molecular underpinnings and drivers of pancreatic cancer.
  12. Identify the appropriate imaging studies for the initial evaluation of patients presenting pancreas cancer pathology.
  13. Examine the benefits of palliative therapies such as pharmacologic cytotoxicity and alternative treatment methods.
  14. Apply relationship-building values and the principles of collaboration to the care for patients with pancreatic cancer.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Thomas Jefferson University is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physicians: This educational activity is designated for a maximum of 4.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: This activity awards 4.00 nursing contact hours.

Other Healthcare Professionals: This educational activity is designated for 4.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Other Credit
Nursing Pharmacology Credit: This educational activity offers 2.00 nursing pharmacology credit. Qualifying sessions are noted on the agenda.

PA Patient Safety and Risk Credit: This education activity offers .50 PA Patient Safety and Risk credit. Qualifying sessions are noted on the agenda.

Successful Completion

To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than <Date-45 days after the last date of activity>. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.

Cancellation Policy

Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received in the Office of CPD two weeks prior to the start date of the course. There will be no refunds after this period.*  Cancellations notified before the two week time frame will incur a 25% administration fee (with a minimum of $20).  Registrants who fail to attend the conference are responsible for the entire fee.  All refunds will be processed after the conference.  The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.
