Overview
Designed for healthcare professionals specializing in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Gynecology, and Colorectal Surgery, the 5th Annual Jefferson Women and Gastroenterology Health Symposium will examine the medical conditions that are unique to women, occur more frequently in women, or present differently in women. By utilizing emerging scientific and clinical evidence, experts will provide updated approaches to the diagnosis, management, and treatment of common gastrointestinal and liver disorders aimed to improve the care of female patients.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Differentiate the causes and treatment of dysphagia in female and male patients.
  2. Discuss barriers faced by women in medicine to become an influential leader.
  3. Compare the approaches and outcomes of surgical management of GERD for female and male patients.
  4. Evaluate gender differences in long-term complications and care of bariatric patients.
  5. Recognize the causes of chronic diarrhea in men and women.
  6. Distinguish the gender differences in the indications for liver biopsy in patients with chronic hepatitis.
  7. Discuss the presentation, diagnosis, and management of autoimmune hepatitis in women.
  8. Use the knowledge of the healthcare team to holistically care for patients.

Accreditation


In support of improving patient care, Thomas Jefferson University is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

 

Physicians: This educational activity is designated for a maximum of 5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: This activity awards 5.00 nursing contact hours.

Certified Registered Dieticians: This activity awards 5.00 credits.

Other Healthcare Professionals: This educational activity is designated for 5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Other Credit
Nursing Pharmacology Credit: This educational activity offers 0.25 nursing pharmacology credit. Qualifying sessions are noted on the agenda.
PA Patient Safety and Risk Credit: This education activity offers  0.25 PA Patient Safety and Risk credit. Qualifying sessions are noted on the agenda.

AAFP: The AAFP has reviewed 5th Annual Jefferson Women and Gastroenterology Health Symposium and deemed it acceptable for up to 4.50 Live AAFP Elective credits. Term of Approval is from 02/24/2023 to 02/24/2023. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Cancellation Policy

Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received in the Office of CPD two weeks prior to the start date of the course. There will be no refunds after this period.*  Cancellations notified before the two week time frame will incur a 25% administration fee (with a minimum of $20).  Registrants who fail to attend the conference are responsible for the entire fee.  All refunds will be processed after the conference.  The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.
