Overview

The Medical Cannabis Symposium is designed for healthcare professionals interested in learning about recent developments in the use of medical cannabis and medical cannabis research; challenges related to impairment, labeling, and synthetic cannabinoids; and legal and regulatory developments in PA.

Todd Herremans will close the Symposium discussing Medical Cannabis for Pain Management in Sports Medicine.

Successful Completion
To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Friday, November 28, 2025. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, healthcare team members will be able to:

  1. Recognize unique clinical challenges that face clinicians who recommend medical cannabis for pain.
  2. Review recommended starting dosage and route of delivery for a medical cannabis patient.
  3. Evaluate the current therapeutic potential and risks of medical cannabis.
  4. Identify the different types of cannabis products and method to record in electronic health records.
  5. Reflect on current issues in state public policy and law from an unbiased educational discussion how laws shape the state's professional licensing board regulations, healthcare delivery, and medical practice.
  6. Analyze the open exchange of ideas between the presenters, the faculty, state legislators, and the participants in the regulatory practice related to medical cannabis.
  7. Critique the challenges of identifying cannabis impairment.
  8. Differentiate semi-synthetic cannabinoids and those from naturally occurring cannabinoids.
  9. Describe the current regulatory gaps that permit widespread sale of intoxicating hemp-derived products.
  10. Identify key policy strategies for regulating semi-synthetic cannabinoids to safeguard public health.
  11. Describe the major components of a properly labeled retail cannabis product.
  12. Recognize the International Intoxicating Cannabinoid Product Symbol (IICPS) and its characteristics in comparison with other cannabis product symbols.
