Overview

From Stonewall to the HIV epidemic to current times, LGBTQI+ older adults have long faced discrimination and inequity in American healthcare settings.

Dr. Noelle Marie Javier, a leading voice for the LGBTQI+ community in Geriatric Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, joins Pride Care at the Jefferson Center for Healthy Aging's inaugural Michael Palm Memorial Lecture to highlight not only the strengths and challenges faced by members of this diverse group, but also to demonstrate a way forward.

She explores core concepts and principles of cultural humility and responsiveness relevant to LGBTQI+ older adults, helping participants build medical homes for members of this vulnerable community. Participants will leave the session with improved ability to provide affirming, inclusive care.

To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Thursday, July 3, 2025. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued.

At the conclusion of this activity, healthcare team members will be able to:

  1. Describe the epidemiologic landscape and the healthcare disparities impacting the older adult LGBTQI+ community.
  2. Discuss fundamental constructs, concepts, and guiding principles in shaping the lens of cultural humility and responsiveness towards this vulnerable community.
  3. Apply specific inclusive and affirming clinical and communication care strategies for this population.
