Overview

This annual symposium features in-depth presentations on stroke epidemiology and prevention, innovations in acute stroke intervention, updated strategies in medical management of stroke, new surgical techniques, panel discussion of challenging cases, nursing care of the stroke patient.

Research topics: vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID), post-stroke cognitive impairment and dementia. (PSCID), cerebral small vessel disease

Keynote Speaker: Rebecca Gottesman MD, PhD

 

Dr. Rebecca Gottesman joined the NINDS as the Chief of the Stroke Branch in May 2021. In addition to the Branch, she is also Chief of the Stroke, Cognition and Neuroepidemiology Section.

Prior to NINDS, Dr. Gottesman was an investigator at The Johns Hopkins University where she made significant research contributions to understanding the cognitive impacts of stroke and other vascular disease, as well as short- and long-term associations between vascular risk factors, vascular disease, and dementias.

 

 

Successful Completion

To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Thursday, April 17, 2025. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, healthcare team members will be able to:

  1. Formulate appropriate management plan for blood pressure control in both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.
  2. Analyze the benefits and risks of current and emerging endovascular techniques for brain aneurysms and other vascular abnormalities.
  3. Review the most current, impactful, nationally/internationally recognized clinical stroke trials published within the past year.
  4. Evaluate current strategies for managing ICH.
  5. Discuss latest advancements in mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke.
  6. Discuss amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) which can mimic stroke, occurring in Alzheimer's Disease patients who are receiving anti-amyloid therapies.
  7. Employ current pharmacotherapy data on anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy in both primary and secondary prevention of stroke.
  8. Discuss factors that should be considered regarding when to restart antithrombotic agents in stroke patients.
  9. Review the risks of perioperative stroke and management strategies in this particular subgroup of stroke patients.
  10. Critique the role of stenting in treating various venous intracranial conditions.
  11. Evaluate how Mobile Stroke Units are changing the delivery of stroke care.
  12. Explore the advantages of telestroke in acute stroke triage.
  13. Discuss the link between obstructive sleep apnea and stroke.
  14. Review optimal management for stroke caused by infective endocarditis.
  15. Investigate the utility of prolonged cardiac monitoring in patients with stroke.
  16. Recommend lifestyle modifications to patients to reduce the risk of primary and secondary stroke based on latest epidemiology and risk factor trends for stroke.

  • Exhibits are intended for informational purposes, products should not be sold through the exhibit hall.
  • TJU and the exhibitor acknowledge and agree that the exhibitor may be subject to Section 6002 of the Affordable Care Act, which added Section 1128G to the Social Security Act, and its implementing regulations codified in 42 CFR 402 &403 (Collectively the Sunshine Act). Exhibiting companies are solely responsible for collecting any information about actions within their virtual exhibit space that constitutes a payment or transfer of value to a covered participant, which is required to reported under the Sunshine Act.
  • Exhibitors may observe educational sessions but must refrain from participating in the activity.
  • No recordings of the scientific sessions on behalf of the exhibitor's company is permitted.

Application Deadline
Applications for exhibits will be accepted through Friday, March 14, 2025. After March 14, 2025, applications may be accepted on a case by case basis.

Cancellation and Refunds
In the event that the symposium is canceled by the organizers, exhibit fees will be refunded in full, however Thomas Jefferson University is not responsible for other expenses incurred by the exhibitor.

In the event an exhibitor cancels participation, refunds will be made as follows:

  • Prior to the deadline of March 14, 2025 a refund will be given minus a 10% administration fee.
  • After March 14, 2025 no refund will be given.
  • Exhibitors who are absent from the conference will not receive a refund.
  • Exhibit cancellations must be made in writing.
