The pharmacists Continuing Education Lecture topics are recommended by practicing pharmacists within the department. The pharmacy residents prepare and present the topic with the guidance of a clinical pharmacist knowledgeable of the topic, and the CE planning committee of the Residency Advisory Committee. Topics recommended are typically those areas of practice with updated guidelines, new therapies, or current "hot" topics of interest to pharmacists. The topics usually are related to acute care of patients but there are occasions that an ambulatory care topic may be requested. Each presentation is developed in a structured method using updated guidelines and primary literature. The residents are required to develop a Needs Assessment and objectives for their presentation. These are reviewed and approved by their preceptor and submitted to the CE planning Committee. The presenters are required to submit a handout to the planning committee at least one week prior to the presentation so that it can be circulated throughout the pharmacy departments of the Enterprise. This allow those interested in the topic to review the content of the presentation. To meet the requirements of ACPE for CE credits, the presenter will develop a patient case or a plan of care to be discussed throughout the presentation. This allows the learner and presenter to determine if those attending are understanding the information provided. There is also a post-presentation evaluation that is required to be completed, for those requesting CE credits, by ACPE.
