Overview
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) provides prolonged respiratory and cardiac support to adult patients whose lungs and heart are too diseased or damaged to function normally on their own. This training is for those interested in managing patients requiring ECMO therapy in the acute care setting. Two days of training by Extracorporeal Life Support Organization’s (ELSO) Instructors will feature didactic and hands-on clinical modules based upon the ELSO Standards and Guidelines. Training participants will gain the skills and knowledge necessary for managing the adult populations requiring Veno-Veno (V-V) and Veno-Arterial (V-A) ECMO.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Recognize major indications and contraindications of venovenous and venoarterial ECMO.
  2. Identify common problems and major complications of ECMO.
  3. Differentiate the interaction ECMO has on various patient organ systems.
  4. Assess the ECMO patient with appropriate monitoring techniques.
  5. Assess the ECMO circuit and circuit components.

Registration

The registration fee for this 2-day training is $2,000 for all learner types.

In support of improving patient care, Thomas Jefferson University is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

 

Physicians: This educational activity is designated for a maximum of 16.00 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: This activity awards 16.0 nursing contact hours. 

Physicians Assistants:

 

Thomas Jefferson University has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 16.0 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

 

Other Healthcare Professionals: This educational activity is designated for 16.00 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Successful Completion

To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Monday, April 24, 2023. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.

Cancellation Policy

Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received in the Office of CPD two weeks prior to the start date of the course. There will be no refunds after this period.*  Cancellations notified before the two week time frame will incur a 25% administration fee (with a minimum of $20).  Registrants who fail to attend the conference are responsible for the entire fee.  All refunds will be processed after the conference.  The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.

*Registration fees will be refunded less a 15% administration fee to international conference registrants who are unable to secure a travel visa. Registrants must provide proof of visa denial.
