Overview

This annual symposium will introduce the latest developments in liver disease as presented by experts in the field of Hepatology.

Liver disease can be a complex issue and patient problems are diverse, necessitating a team approach with differing expertise and skills. Attendees will be able to participate in the interactive panel discussions throughout the day.

Note: This Symposium will occur post AASLD Annual Meeting and bring the highlights of this event to Philadelphia.

Keynote: Marlyn Mayo MD

Dr. Marlyn Mayo earned her MD from Baylor College of Medicine, completed internal medicine training at UC Irvine, and a gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship at UT Southwestern. Dr. Mayo developed an interest in primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) through her focus on autoimmune diseases and mentorship during residency. At UT Southwestern, she contributed to a major PBC clinical trial and conducted both patient-based and laboratory research on its causes.

She later collaborated on research in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), a condition related to PBC, helping advance genetic insights that may inform PBC research. Her work expanded to other pregnancy-related liver diseases.

Currently, her research centers on the pathogenesis of autoimmune liver diseases, including mechanisms of bile duct injury in PBC and cryoglobulin development in hepatitis C. She studies immune cell signaling and leads clinical trials investigating new PBC treatments.
