Overview

This professional development activity enhances patient care by promoting a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to neurological disorders.

Through interactive sessions and expert-led discussions, participants will reflect on current clinical practices and identify knowledge gaps in both the medical and surgical management of neurological conditions. By bridging these gaps, the program equips clinicians with actionable strategies to optimize treatment plans and improve long-term patient outcomes.

Keynote: Eric K. Oermann, MD

Dr. Eric Oermann is a neurosurgeon and artificial intelligence expert who integrates cutting-edge AI technologies into neurosurgical practice to enhance patient care and improve outcomes. With particular expertise in brain and spinal tumors, he combines advanced surgical techniques with machine learning-driven insights developed through his postdoctoral fellowship.

Dr. Oermann is a recognized leader in medical AI, focused on applying scalable, data-driven solutions to real-world healthcare challenges while maintaining a patient-centered approach rooted in the physician–patient relationship.

Keynote: Ajay A. Madhavan, MD

Dr. Ajay A. Madhavan is a neuroradiologist at Duke Health specializing in advanced imaging of the brain, spine, and nervous system. He serves as an Instructor in the Department of Radiology at Duke University and cares for both adult and pediatric patients.

Dr. Madhavan completed his diagnostic radiology residency and neuroradiology fellowship at Mayo Clinic, and his clinical and research interests include spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, spine interventions, and emerging imaging technologies such as photon-counting CT.

Successful Completion
To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Wednesday, December 9, 2026. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, healthcare team members will be able to:

  1. Evaluate recent evidence-based clinical data and guidelines to select optimal medical and surgical interventions for complex neurological disorders.
  2. Formulate practical, real-world treatment strategies that successfully translate theoretical neurological knowledge into daily bedside clinical workflows.
  3. Execute complex clinical decision-making pathways with increased proficiency and confidence across diverse patient scenarios.
  4. Appraise personal and institutional knowledge deficits through continuous professional self-assessment to actively close identified practice gaps.
  5. Collaborate effectively as an interprofessional care team to dismantle communication silos between medical and surgical specialties.
  6. Translate theoretical knowledge into actionable strategies for consistent implementation in daily clinical practice.
