Overview

The David M. Davis visiting professorship is a year-end program that invites a distinguished Urologist to provide a series of lectures on their topic of expertise. There is also an interactive case presentation activity between the residents and the Visiting Professor which reinforces the topics discussed in the lecture components. This program is targeted at the faculty, resident, advanced practice provider staff and students in the Department of Urology.

Stephen A. Boorjian, MD

 
This year Dr. Stephen A. Boorjian, Carl Rosen Professor of Urology and Chair the Department of Urology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota will be highlighting the event.

He is an internationally known expert in urologic oncology. Dr. Boorjian will focus his lectures on the role of urologists in patients with high-risk prostate cancer. These are important to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction and quality of life while providing health care which also reduces costs.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the appropriate population to target prostate cancer screening, focusing on those groups at higher risk.
  2. Review the treatment options available for patients diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer.
  3. List the current areas of active research on the management of high-risk prostate cancer.
  4. Summarize the recent data regarding the surgical treatment of high-risk prostate cancer
  5. Recognize the costs associated with the treatment of urologic malignancies.

Successful Completion
To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Monday, July 31, 2023. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.
