Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the impact of the circadian clock abnormalities on health and disease.
  2. Identify the clinical features of Restless Leg Syndrome, associated comorbidities and treatment options.
  3. Identify steps in building a home sleep testing program.
  4. Explain the use of light for the treatment of circadian rhythm disorders
  5. Assess the role of novel pharmacological compounds including those acting on the histamine, melatonin, and orexin systems in the management of insomnia.
  6. Examine the key concepts underlying cognitive behavioral therapy as first-line treatment in psychiatric patients with comorbid insomnia.
  7. Identify the spectrum of treatment modalities for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) and central sleep apnea (CSA).
  8. Appraise technical innovations including phrenic nerve stimulation, upper airway stimulation therapy, and wearable technologies in the management of sleep disorders.
  9. Design a systematic approach for the management of excessive sleepiness and other key symptoms of narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia.
  10. Assess individual practices in light of new information and discussion.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Thomas Jefferson University is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physicians: This educational activity is designated for a maximum of 8.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: This activity awards 8.00 nursing contact hours.

Family Physician: The AAFP has reviewed 8th Annual Sleep Medicine Symposium and deemed it acceptable for up to 7.00 Live AAFP Elective credits. Term of Approval is from 05/12/2023 to 05/12/2023. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Respiratory Therapists: Application has been made to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for continuing education contact hours for respiratory therapists.

Sleep Technicians: AAST CEC Program Application has been submitted for approval.

Cancellation Policy
Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received in the Office of CPD two weeks prior to the start date of the course. There will be no refunds after this period.* 

Cancellations notified before the two week time frame will incur a 25% administration fee (with a minimum of $20).  Registrants who fail to attend the conference are responsible for the entire fee.  All refunds will be processed after the conference. 

The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.
