Overview
This interdisciplinary conference features highly experienced, internationally recognized specialists that are leaders in the fields of endocrinology, neurological surgery, and radiation oncology. This outstanding roster of presenters will deliver the most cutting-edge advances in the diagnosis and management of pituitary-related disorders including Cushing’s disease, acromegaly, and hyperprolactinemia. Case discussions, video case descriptions and Q&A sessions will provide expert perspectives into care decisions. This conference will bring together surgeons and clinicians in neurosurgery, endocrinology, family medicine, internal medicine, and other professionals interested in pituitary disorders.

 

 Successful Completion

To successfully complete this activity, the required evaluation must be completed no later than Monday, June 12, 2023. Thereafter, the evaluation will no longer be available and credits will not be issued. No refunds will be offered for failure to complete the required evaluation by the stated deadline.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe how multidisciplinary collaboration allows for better awareness and adoption of technical and conceptual advances in managing patients with pituitary disorders.
  2. Compare contemporary approaches for managing pituitary disorders to current practice.
  3. Examine controversies in managing and treating pituitary disorders.

Cancellation Policy

Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing and received in the Office of CPD two weeks prior to the start date of the course. There will be no refunds after this period.*  Cancellations notified before the two week time frame will incur a 25% administration fee (with a minimum of $20).  Registrants who fail to attend the conference are responsible for the entire fee.  All refunds will be processed after the conference.  The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.

Dr. Mary Lee Vance graduated from Loyola University, New Orleans, obtained a master’s degree in biology at UVA and attended LSU Medical School in New Orleans, LA. She was an associate director for the NIH funded general clinical research for several years and conducted many research studies in new hormone treatments and in patients with several types of pituitary diseases.

Dr. Vance currently works with patients with pituitary disorders. She served on the Jefferson Board of Aging with the goal of providing necessary services to our elderly population. Additionally, she supports the Charlottesville Free Clinic, the Charlottesville Shelter for Help in Emergency and Planned Parenthood.

Lynnette K Nieman, MD (Presenter)

Dr. Lynnette Nieman is a Senior Investigator and Chief of the Endocrinology Consultation Service at the NIH Clinical Center and is uniquely experienced in the practice of clinical investigation. From 1991 to 2001 she served as the Clinical Director of intramural NICHD, overseeing the clinical care of the institute’s patients and ensuring compliance with regulations regarding human subjects research. Dr. Nieman is also an active clinical investigator, with special expertise in disorders of hypercortisolism, having seen more than 1000 patients with Cushing’s syndrome at the NIH. The Endocrine Society recognized this expertise by asking her to chair a task force to develop guidelines on the diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome.

She is the author or co-author of more than 225 publications and has sponsored three investigational new drug applications to the FDA, one of which has been licensed in the US. She is the author of cards on Cushing’s syndrome in the well-acclaimed resource, UpToDate, and she is a co-editor of the Adrenal Section.

Mark Molitch, MD (Presenter)

Mark E. Molitch, MD is Professor Emeritus in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. His research has focused on the pathogenesis and treatment of pituitary tumors and the effects of such tumors on pregnancy. He has participated in the development of most of the medical treatments for prolactinomas and acromegaly and has been a member of the committees that wrote the Guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency, of Pituitary Incidentalomas and of Acromegaly of The Endocrine Society and of Prolactinomas of The Pituitary Society.

Dr. Molitch has authored more than 500 original papers, review articles, book chapters, case reports and other publications. He was an Endocrine Society Council Member 2008 – 2010, President of The Pituitary Society 2012-2013 and was the 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Educator Award of The Endocrine Society.
