A. Personal Statement
I am currently Professor of Radiology and Neurology and director of the division of Neuroradiology and ENT Thomas Jefferson University. I am a board certified radiologist and CAQ in neuroradiology, and an expert in both adult and pediatric neuroimaging. I am a founder and past president of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology. I am the current president of the Philadelphia Roentgen Ray Society. My research interests include applications of advanced functional imaging biomarkers to study the brain and spine for a variety of neurological disorders some of which including: spinal cord injury, neoplasms, epilepsy, intracranial hypertension/hypotension and cognitive disorders.
It will be my pleasure to collaborate with Drs. Joga Chaganti, Diana Tzeng, and Zhikui Wei on the research project entitled, “An Evaluation of Blood Brain Barrier Permeability and Cognitive Dysfunction in Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Stroke”. I am very excited to be involved in this project.
These publications are examples of some of my work in quantitative functional neuroimaging.

C. Contribution to Science
I am an academic leader in my field. I have authored more than 350 peer reviewed articles, abstracts, book chapters and 6 textbooks. During my entire carrier my personal research has focused on collaborative translational research in the field of neuroscience. While director of the TempIe University MRI Core, from 20102016, I facilitated research and collaborations between the departments of Radiology, Psychology, Electrical engineering, Computer engineering, Biomedical engineering, Neurovirology, Neurosurgery and Neurology. My research laboratory has an emphasis in the fields of BOLD functional MRI and diffusion tensor imaging and train’s masters and doctoral graduate students, radiology residents and medical students in these disciplines. I am also a founding member and past president of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology. I continue to be an active national leader in this important medical society that is charged with facilitating research and education in all the cutting edge functional neuroimaging techniques.
